For anyone looking for a conventional representation of famed folk singer Bob Dylan, do not try your hand with Todd Haynes’ ambitious new film “I’m Not There”. His impressionistic look at the music icon is at times challenging, often to the point of being exasperating, but in the end is a fascinating and probably appropriate way to cover a man who has worn many faces and given away very little about himself in interviews.

Posted: December 16, 2007 Filed under: BLOG | Tags: modern life Comments OffPlease let me make this clear. Pride and dignity mean very little. When all is said and done, they’re only defense mechanisms for a fragile ego. They’re code words for fear. Better to nurse a few battle wounds than live in an ivory tower, haughty and remote.
I understand this now and go forth with a lungful of air and my eyes turned to the sky. There will be shame and humiliation and mistakes galore. I’m 24 now, I’ve accepted that I will never be flawless and cool. Silly/stupid/lame (that last one is the one that’s always dogged me) – unfortunately it all goes with the territory. And you can only blush, hope that not too much mud sticks and do better next time.
There will be life. There will be love and adventures. There will be spirited conversation and urging music. There will be words. There will be risk. I’m making the break, woosh!
